As a girl, Treva Hall Melvin set out to be a writer, but was sidetracked by her prowess at college athletics and then by a career as a criminal lawyer. Thirty years later, she has returned to her first love, and Mr. Samuel’s Penny, which is based on true-life experiences in her youth, is the happy result. Written in part as an homage to To Kill a Mockingbird, this historical mystery features a funny, strong-willed protagonist who is taught the hard lessons of life from a group of wise (and beautifully draw) adults. Treva now resides outside of Philadelphia with her husband; who is also an attorney, two children and their dog, Audrey.
